Special Track on: Complexity in Organization, Management, and Economics

Social Simulation Conference 2026
August 24-28, 2026

Durham, Durham University, United Kingdom

We invite you to submit a paper to the special track Complexity in Organization, Management, and Economics, to be held at the Social Simulation Conference 2026. This track provides a platform for researchers to share their insights and explore the latest advancements in the field of agent-based modelling and simulation.

Over the years, agent-based modelling and simulation have become increasingly popular in the fields of management, organization, and economic sciences. This positive trend is due to the collaborative efforts of researchers across various disciplines, such as social sciences, physics, computer science, engineering, and psychology, who have successfully applied this method to address complex problems. As technology advances, this stream of research continues to grow, offering new possibilities for research.

The special track aims to gather researchers interested in using agent-based modeling and simulation to address complex contemporary challenges in management, organization, and economic sciences. We welcome papers that explore recent developments, innovative applications, and future directions in this field.

Topics of interest are (but are not limited to):
  • Contemporary topics in management and organizaton science, e.g., organizational resilience, digital twins, discrimination, subjective performance evaluation
  • Agent-based models in organization, management, economics and innovation for the sustainable transition.
  • Microeconomic agent-based models: Formation of market structures and the role of ABM in game theory.
  • Macroeconomic agent-based models: Examining economic crises, patterns of growth, social dynamics as, for example, caused by self-fulfilling prophecies, business cycles, and the effects of climate change and sustainability.
  • Simulating human behavior, group decision-making and collective intelligence.
  • Issues in empirically validating agent-based models in organization, management, and economics.
  • Innovative hybrid methodologies for ABM.
  • Promoting transparency and ensuring reproducibility in agent-based models.
  • Innovating new approaches and solutions using ABM.
We welcome the submission of
  • Poster Abstracts: 300-500 words, to be presented as a poster at the dedicated poster session at the conference
  • Extended Abstracts: 3-4 pages, can be work in progress
  • Full Papers for presentation only: 6-12 pages, should be complete papers with model design, results and conclusions (or other appropriate content), but can include work in progress elements
  • Full Papers for proceedings: 6-12 pages, should be complete papers with model design, results and conclusions (or other appropriate content). These papers may be subject to additional review.

Papers will only be considered for publication in the proceedings if they are submitted as full papers intended for the proceedings. All submissions must be formatted using the LNCS template, which can be found here (LaTeX) and here (MS Word).
